Portuguese sports outlet A Bola have reported that Porto striker Moussa Marega will leave in the summer with Manuel Pellegrini's West Ham United outlined as his next home.

What's the word, then?

The Malian international has always wanted a move to the Premier League and will depart the Estadio do Dragao this summer if his €40million release clause can be met, most likely to east London.

Marega is a 28-year-old pacey, physical striker who best operates just behind or to the right of the centre-forward.

The man firmly in the peak years of his career got his big move in early summer 2016 when he was picked up by one of the biggest clubs in Portugal whilst playing for Vitoria Guimaraes SC, impressing hugely and catching the eye since.

Smart thinking

It seems like Hammers co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan are finally using their brains when hunting for a new striker, unlike many previous transfer windows.

The West Ham recruitment team have already identified Celta Vigo's Maxi Gomez and Fulham's Aleksandar Mitrovic as two attacking targets - in that order.

However, by seemingly adding a third option to the table, they're ensuring that they'll end up with at least one decent forward by the start of August instead of putting all their eggs in one basket chasing a single player.

The East Londoners will definitely need to bolster their striker ranks this summer with the possibility of exits for Marko Arnautovic, Andy Carroll, Javier Hernandez and Lucas Perez.

Of course, they'll want to sign either or both of Gomez and Mitrovic before the start of the new season, but if they can't get either, Marega is a capable alternative.

Marega has proved himself on the biggest stage in Europe, scoring six and assisting two in this season's UEFA Champions League as well as contributing to 18 goals in Liga Nos. This, among many other factors, makes him a very attractive option indeed for Pellegrini.
