Versatile Fornals would be perfect summer addition for West Ham

According to AS, via Sport Witness, West Ham United are leading the race to sign Villarreal midfielder Pablo Fornals in this summer’s transfer window.

What’s the word, then?

Fornals, 23, joined Villarreal from Malaga in the summer of 2017 and has made 96 appearances for the Yellow Submarine over the last two campaigns.

According to AS, via Sport Witness, West Ham are leading Tottenham Hotspur when it comes to the midfielder, who is a two-time Spain international.

The Hammers are expected to sign at least one new midfielder this summer and Fornals’ versatility will certainly be attractive to the London club.

AS, via Sport Witness, have reported that there is a release clause of £22.2m in the Spaniard’s contract, which will have to be activated in order to sign him ahead of the 2019-20 campaign.

And securing the services of a player with Fornals’ skill set for a relatively low price makes perfect sense for Manuel Pellegrini’s side this summer.

What would Fornals bring to West Ham?

Boasting nine goals and 19 assists in his 96 appearances for Villarreal, there is no question that Fornals is capable of producing big moments in matches.

However, as mentioned above, it is his ability to play in a number of different positions that would make him so valuable in the Premier League.

Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he’s still got it! Check out the video below…

Indeed, Transfermarkt have the Spaniard down as occupying no fewer than six positions during the 2018-19 campaign.

The majority of his football came as an attacking midfielder, but Fornals also played left midfield, right midfield, central midfield, left wing and right wing for the Yellow Submarine last term.

Sitting alongside Declan Rice in a midfield role or helping the likes of Felipe Anderson and Marko Arnautovic further forward, Fornals could play a huge role for West Ham next season.

The Hammers have been linked with a number of players over the last few weeks but few make more sense than the Villarreal ace.
