West Ham are right to be interested in Gabriel Barbosa

According to Sport Mediaset, West Ham United have tabled an offer for Inter Milan forward Gabriel Barbosa, who is currently on loan at Santos.

What’s the story?

Gabriel has seemingly got his career back on track at Santos, having scored 25 times in 49 appearances whilst back on loan at the Brazilian club.

The Brazilian will see his loan with Santos expire next month, however, and is heading back to parent club Inter, who have struggled to see the best of the attacker.

Indeed, Inter signed Gabriel from Santos in August 2016, but he has only made 10 first-team appearances for the Italian outfit, scoring just once in the process.

An unsuccessful loan spell at Benfica preceded a move back to Santos, and the forward has found his shooting boots once again.

According to Sport Mediaset, West Ham have approached Inter with an offer for Gabriel, and they are keen to secure his signature in the January transfer window.

Should West Ham take the punt?

Gabriel is a very, very talented footballer. There is absolutely no question about that. It has not worked at Inter, but that does not mean that the forward could not go elsewhere, namely the Premier League, and make things work.

After all, the South American is only 22 years old, and his overall record in professional football stands at 83 goals in 218 first-team appearances.

West Ham are not exactly full of options in the centre-forward position, and the Hammers should take a punt on Gabriel, providing that the finances involved are not over the top.

A certain South American in the shape of Carlos Tevez enjoyed his time at West Ham, and there is no question that a move to the English capital would appeal to Gabriel.

The 5ft 9in ace has a lot to prove as he prepares to return to Europe, and he could turn out to be a wonderful signing for West Ham, should the Hammers get the deal done.
