West Ham beating Liverpool in ‘new Buffon’ hunt

West Ham have edged ahead of Premier League rivals Liverpool in the race for highly-rated Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin, according to reports from Metro.

The 22-year-old stopper is seen as one of Italy’s finest young talents and has even drawn comparisons with Azzurri legend and Juventus hero, Gianluigi Buffon.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for the starlet as they search for competition for main stopper Simon Mignolet, but now the Irons are also in the running.

Reports suggest that the London club are monitoring Perin, who is valued at £15m, ahead of a potential summer swoop.

Genoa are reluctant to lose their man, who was a part of Italy’s 2014 World Cup squad, despite his tender age.

West Ham currently deploy Adrian as their No.1, but with back-up man Jussi Jaaskelainen set to be a free agent in a couple of months’ time, they may find themselves short of options between the sticks.
