West Ham boss hopeful Arsenal & Liverpool target will stay

Sam Allardyce says that West Ham have not yet given up on keeping hold of Winston Reid, even though the defender is wanted by both Liverpool and Arsenal.

The New Zealand centre-back has been one of the stars of the Hammers’ impressive start to the season, playing well from the back.

But there is a distinct possibility that the Irons may be unable to keep hold of their man beyond January, with his contract due to expire at the end of the campaign.

Negotiations between the club and the player are understood to be at an early stage, which has alerted both Liverpool and Arsenal.

The two clubs are ready to offer cut-price fees for the enforcer in the New Year, and are confident that Reid’s desire to play top level European football may allow them to get a deal done.

But ‘Big Sam’ says that the east London club are not resigned to losing their man just yet:

“Well I haven’t given up [Reid’s contract] because I feel that we’re progressing very nicely and I feel we can give Winston all he wants if he stays with us.” he is quoted by talkSPORT.

“We’re building the club slowly at the moment but our ultimate goal is try and be as ambitious as we possibly can and that would be as ambitious as Winston.

“But of course if Winston’s that impatient and he thinks it’s something else then we’ll have to wait and see.”
