Ahead of West Ham's game against Brighton this weekend, Manuel Pellegrini has delivered a selection update that presumably won't be what the Hammers supporters were hoping to hear.

What's the latest?

The former Manchester City boss has revealed that two of his most valuable assets in Felipe Anderson and Sebastien Haller may have to miss out on the trip to the Amex Stadium after picking up knocks in the 5-0 loss against the Citizens last weekend.

The latter cost the Irons £45m this summer when signed from Eintracht Frankfurt, whilst Anderson cost the Londoners a then club-record fee of £36m when signing him from Lazio in 2018 - Pellegrini would surely rather have the combined talent of £81m worth of players available to him, although there could be a silver lining for two other new recruits.

Chance for Albian Ajeti and Pablo Fornals

West Ham spent £8m on Switzerland international Ajeti when signing him from Basel this summer, whilst Fornals arrived in a £24m deal from Villarreal.

The Spaniard operates primarily in an attacking midfield spot, and can also play on the right where Anderson started the game against City.

In Ajeti's case, the 22-year-old is an out-and-out centre forward, the position where Haller started last weekend.

The loss of £81m worth of talent isn't ideal, but Haller and Anderson's absence gives Fornals and Ajeti the chance to shine in positions that come naturally to them, and against an opposition who the Hammers will be slightly more expectant of a result against in comparison to last weekend.

It could be a real silver lining of the grey cloud that is Haller and Anderson's potential absence, although it would help the new arrivals get some invaluable game time under their belts and would also allow them to begin their adaption to life in the Premier League.
