West Ham close in on Spurs ace

West Ham are on the verge of tying up a surprise £2.5m move for Tottenham captain Younes Kaboul, according to reports from The Independent.

Despite being named skipper by Spurs chief Mauricio Pochettino last year, the burly Frenchman has been in and out of the Lilywhites’ XI this term, and is believed to be seen as surplus to requirements given Jan Vertonghen’s return to form and the emergence of new arrival Federico Fazio.

Tottenham’s willingness to offload the 29-year-old has alerted the Hammers, with boss Sam Allardyce thought to be looking to get defensive reinforcements in before the deadline passes.

West Ham have also been looking at Sylvain Distin of Everton, yet the 37-year-old’s ageing legs may be an issue.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are looking to replace Kaboul with Kevin Wimmer of Koln, while Dele Alli is thought to be close to joining the club from MK Dons.
