West Ham boss Sam Allardyce is said to be considering a move for Everton striker Nikica Jelavic instead off Andy Carroll, according to the Sun.

The Hammers have been looking to bring in Carroll in the summer after a relatively successful season on loan at the club from Liverpool but his price tag may force them to look elsewhere.

Allardyce is looking at landing the Croatian international Jelavic who has had a poor campaign this time around but was excellent when he arrived at Goodison Park.

Despite just one goal this year, Jelavic scored 11 goals in just 16 appearances when he arrived at the club from Rangers and that sort of possible form is what attracts Allardyce.

David Moyes insisted at the weekend he retains faith in his striker, but the player himself is said to be considering his position at the club as he is no longer guaranteed a starting place in the side.
