West Ham could return for unattached star

Striker Carlton ColeWest Ham are considering another move for Carlton Cole, according to reports from talkSPORT.

The Hammers released the seven-time England international at the end of last season, and despite being linked with a number of sides he has been unable to find a new club.

But, with club record signing Andy Carroll still sidelined through injury, Sam Allardyce has found himself short of attacking options during the opening weeks of the new campaign.

One attempt to re-sign Cole has already been made, but the striker failed to convince the Londoners that he was fit enough for action.

West Ham have since been linked with Ciprian Marica – also a free agent – however it is thought that they may return once again for their former star.

‘Big Sam’ made signing a new forward a priority during the closing weeks of the transfer window, but moves for Demba Ba, Romelu Lukaku and Nicklas Bendtner all collapsed leaving him with only Modibo Maiga – a player whose future at the club was uncertain all summer – as an orthodox attacking option.

Cole has been training with the Upton Park club outfit recently, and it is thought that the club are willing to offer him a new deal if he can prove he is fit enough to contribute.

Does Carlton Cole deserve another chance at West Ham?
