According to The Sun, West Ham United are considering a move for West Bromwich Albion centre-back Ahmed Hegazi in this summer's transfer window.

What's the story?

Hegazi joined West Brom on loan from Al Ahly last summer before completing a permanent transfer to the Baggies during the January transfer window.

The centre-back's future at the Hawthorns has been called into question, however, following the club's relegation from the Premier League.

According to The Sun, West Ham are closely monitoring proceedings as they eye a move for the defender, who will reportedly be available for £2.5m this summer due to a relegation release clause in the Egyptian's contract.

That said, Leicester City are also believed to be interested in signing Hegazi, with the Foxes prepared to battle West Ham during this summer's transfer window.

Should West Ham fight to sign him?

West Brom had a difficult 2017-18 campaign, but there is no question that Hegazi was one of the team's most consistent performers.

Indeed, he appeared in all 38 of West Brom's Premier League matches last term - scoring twice and impressing with the ease that he settled into the English game.

For £2.5m, the deal is an absolute no-brainer. Hegazi will be a better player for his experience over the last 12 months, and he showed throughout the season that he is more than capable of operating at this level of football.

Hegazi will travel with Egypt to the 2018 World Cup this summer, and the centre-back will surely be keen to have his future tied up before then.

The chance to move to the English capital would surely appeal to the 27-year-old, and West Ham, whose supporters have been reacting to the rumours surrounding Manuel Pellegrini, should fight hard to beat Leicester to his signature.
