According to The Mirror, Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles is a transfer target for West Ham United in this summer's window.

What's the latest?

It is expected to be a busy summer transfer window for West Ham, with new head coach Manuel Pellegrini reportedly having as much as £75m to spend on new signings.

Pellegrini has become the highest-paid manager in West Ham's history, and the Chilean certainly has the pedigree to attract players to the London Stadium.

According to The Mirror, Newcastle skipper Lascelles has emerged as a leading target for the Hammers, who are in desperate need of reinforcements at the back.

That said, West Ham should surely face serious competition for Lascelles when considering that Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and indeed Liverpool have all been credited with an interest.

Would Lascelles be a good signing?

Lascelles can count himself extremely unfortunate to have missed out on a spot in the England squad for the 2018 World Cup when considering his form last season.

Indeed, the 24-year-old had a very impressive 2017-18 campaign with Newcastle - scoring three times in 35 appearances in all competitions.

The centre-back, who is valued at £6.3m by transfermarkt.co.uk, is happy at St James' Park, but the chance to move to the English capital would surely appeal.

West Ham certainly need to boost their defensive unit this summer if they are to push into the top half of the Premier League table next season, and Lascelles would be a fine addition to their back-line.

With money to spend and a high-profile manager, it is shaping up to be a very exciting summer transfer window for the West Ham fans.
