West Ham eyeing shock Song alternative (not Barton)

West Ham are pondering a shock move for wantaway Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva as they weigh up alternatives to last season’s loanee Alex Song, according to reports from ESPN.

The Hammers have been attempting to thrash out a deal for the Cameroonian for most of the summer, but, as things stand, he’s still a Barcelona player despite enjoying an impressive 2014/15 season at Upton Park.

Reports have suggested that a deal for free agent Joey Barton is set to go through, and it’s now being claimed that Lucas is being eyed following a fall-out with Reds chief Brendan Rodgers.

It’s understood that the Brazil international – who didn’t travel with Liverpool to Stoke on Sunday – has been told that he’s fifth choice at Anfield, which has convinced him to move on.

West Ham are monitoring the 28-year-old’s situation closely and view him as a genuine alternative to Song.
