West Ham look set to miss out on signing Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva, with the Daily Express claiming AC Milan are close to agreeing personal terms with the Brazilian.
The 28-year-old reportedly had a falling out with manager Brendan Rodgers after being left out of the Reds’ opening day Premier League victory over Stoke City last Sunday – and he is also expected to be left out of the Liverpool squad that will face Bournemouth on Monday.
And despite West Ham’s reported interest yesterday, the Express claim Lucas’ agent is set to fly to Italy tomorrow to open negotiations over a contract.
Hammers boss Slaven Bilic was supposedly eyeing Lucas as an alternative to Barcelona’s Alex Song, who’s permanent switch to West Ham has remained in the balance all summer.
And after West Ham also pulled out of a deal sign free agent Joey Barton earlier this week, the new Upton Park boss may be forced to rethink his search for a defensive midfielder.
