David Martin made his first-ever appearance for West Ham United, the club he had grown up supporting, against Chelsea on Saturday.

To make this an even bigger occasion for the 33-year-old, it was also his Premier League debut - he only went and marked it by keeping a clean sheet, helping put an end to the Hammers' eight-game run without a win in all competitions.

Not only were Hammers fans delighted to have the three points in the bag, but they were also thrilled for Martin, especially because of his background as a West Ham supporter.

Having someone who so clearly cared about the club has definitely been seen as another bonus by many, with his passion revealed by the fact the goalkeeper couldn't hold back his tears after the final whistle.

There was also a brilliant moment where he went into the stands and gave his dad, Alvin, a hug to celebrate the victory.

There were still thoughts back to Roberto's time in goal, and all of the costly mistakes that he made, following the final whistle though.

Seeing Martin manage to keep a clean sheet in the way that he did meant that there will have been some who felt he should have been put between the sticks earlier.

The 33-year-old still wasn't the most orthodox of stoppers, but he managed to get the job done at an important time for the club.
