West Ham fans have taken to Twitter in delighted fashion after Sky Sports revealed that talks are still ongoing between the club and La Liga strugglers Celta Vigo for in-demand marksman Maxi Gomez.

The Uruguayan international has a huge £43.3m release clause in his contract with the Spanish side, with Celta Vigo only willing to sell him this month if that figure is met in full, as they don't want to lose him in the midst of their battle for survival - they sit just one point above the relegation zone in La Liga.

Impressively, the 22-year-old striker has hit nine goals and recorded five assists in 16 league starts so far in the current campaign, as seen on his Whoscored page, which has attracted the Hammers' attention.
