West Ham fans back Jason Cundy calling club ‘cringey’ and ‘embarrassing’

TalkSPORT presenter Jason Cundy has not held back in his criticism of West Ham United as the east London side continue to negotiate a new contract with Declan Rice.

The London-born ace is said to be on just £3,000 a week on his current deal and the club’s recent efforts of an improved £15,000 with a £20,000 bonus per Premier League game failed to tempt the 19-year-old to put pen to paper.

Sources for The Telegraph even suggested the offer would be the Irons’ final one as the club were growing frustrated at the prolonged discussions despite the player wanting to sign on with them again.

This season alone, the 6 foot 1 centre-back come defensive midfielder has featured heavily under Manuel Pellegrini during the Chilean’s first season in charge. In nine league outings, the teenager has completed 23 tackles, 16 interceptions, 14 blocks and 379 passes per WhoScored data.

Having failed to agree to a new contract, Cundy’s scathing criticism of West Ham saw the presenter label the club and situation as ‘cringey’ and ‘embarrassing’.

He said: “He’s a regular starter in the midfield of a Premier League club,’ he said while on air. “There comes with that – for me – a standard wage, which is not £20,000-a-week.

“People say he’s only on £3,000-a-week. I don’t think West Ham can afford to allow this young man even to consider that he leaves.

“It just sums up West Ham, everything they do is cringey, it’s embarrassing.

“They seem to want to do things in the cheapest possible way.”

Some Hammers fans even agreed with his comments…
