Reports in Italy have claimed that West Ham United will have to pay £24m if they wish to sign Joao Mario on a permanent deal from Inter Milan at the end of the season.
The 25-year-old joined West Ham on loan from Inter in January, and has scored once and provided one assist in nine Premier League appearances for the club.
Mario has had some positive moments in a Hammers shirt, but it would be fair to say that the Portugal international has struggled to make a serious mark in English football.
Inter are said to be prepared to sell this summer, but it would mean West Ham coming up with close to £25m, which would be some investment for the London club.
The West Ham fans have been debating the potential signing, and it would be fair to say that a number are not too pleased with the numbers that have surfaced.
Mario is a very talented footballer, but West Ham surely have more pressing needs this summer when considering their struggles throughout the 2017-18 campaign.

Get it to 20m & do 4m in add ons would be good think he would be miles better if we had a very good defensive midfielder bit more freedom like a lot of our players

Not my cup of tea. Clearly has skill but (the Southampton goal aside) he often shirks tackles and refuses to go in for headers. It puts others under needless pressure. That’s not West Ham.

What’s he actually done to merit a move to us. For me he hasn’t done enough especially for 25m. Arnautovic cost 25m but he was worth every penny. Mario just turns up one game then goes missing for the next five games

Our fans are just as clueless as our owners if they think Mario is worth £24m + his high wages.

Our lot will want to pay £2m now and the rest over the next 10 years

Hardly as £20m player, I would pay 18 or so for Maddison, who I think is a far better prospect, lower wages and younger.
If we were talking £14m sure, but 1 goal & 1 assist in 9 isn’t the form of a big fee player.
I’d go for Elyounoussi, Jahanbakhsh or Bernard on a free

£12 million and I'll have him. Not worth much more.

Or, negotiate. A lower price and I'd be all for keeping him.

6 goals in last 6 seasons. Hardly set the world alight. I’m sure we can spend better £24mils.
