According to reports in The Mirror, West Ham United striker Andy Carroll has criticised the club’s supporters for leaving home matches early, and Irons fans have hit back at his comments.
The London Stadium emptied out with 15 minutes left to play of the 4-1 defeat against Liverpool on Saturday – a result which saw them slip into the relegation zone and proved to be the final nail in Slaven Bilic’s coffin – and it was a similar situation in the previous home loss against Brighton and Hove Albion and when they fell 3-0 behind against Tottenham Hotspur.
As reported by The Mirror, Carroll said: “They really should be staying. They should be staying until the end. You never know what’s going to happen.”
West Ham supporters were quick to have their say on the 28-year-old’s comments via social media, and while one simply called him “a muppet”, another said “do your talking on the pitch”.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
Andy Carroll has missed 103 games since signing for West Ham. Not sure he's in any place to criticise the fans who applaud him every week.

We're all just following Carroll's example when he decided to leave before half time vs Burnley. What a muppet!

@AndyTCarroll try do your talking on the pitch, if you can manage 90mins that is. The fans have been here, and will be here longer than you!

Obviously wants out of this club… he doesn’t seem to have any problem taking his weekly wage for doing SFA! should hang his head in shame!

Why dont you put a bit more effort in then? We support a team that looks like they actually want to win!
