Joao Mario spent the second half of last season on loan at West Ham United from Inter Milan, and managed two goals in 13 Premier League appearances for the London club.
It is understood that the Hammers had the chance to sign Mario on a permanent deal during the summer, but were not prepared to meet Inter’s asking price.
Mario was linked with another loan move to the London Stadium, although it is thought that Inter were only prepared to sell, rather than sanction another short-term deal.
The Portugal international was not involved in the early weeks of the season, but has impressed in Inter’s last two games, and managed one goal and three assists in his team’s 5-0 win over Genoa on Saturday night.
Mario will be hoping for another chance to impress in the Champions League against Barcelona this week, and the West Ham fans have been reacting to the midfielder’s latest form.
Indeed, it seems that a number feel that their club made a big mistake:
Joao Mario finally getting a chance at Inter and now he’s shining. Imagine my shock. So under appreciated when he was at us.

Was hoping he weren’t gonna be involved too much for them and then come back to us in January, still wouldn’t write it off tho ⚒
