West Ham United opened their preparations for the new Premier League campaign with a pre-season fixture against Winterthur at the weekend.

The Hammers actually suffered a 3-2 defeat to the Swiss outfit, but the club's fans had the chance to see summer signings Issa Diop and Ryan Fredericks in action for the first time.

Diop moved to the London Stadium last month, with West Ham smashing their transfer record to sign the Frenchman in a deal which was believed to have been worth £22m.

The 21-year-old played the second 45 minutes of the clash with Winterthur on Sunday, and it would be fair to say that the West Ham fans were pleaded with what they saw.

Diop put in a no-nonsense performance at the heart of the defence, and it is not difficult to miss the Frenchman when considering that he stands at a towering 6ft 4in.

West Ham will continue their pre-season preparations with a clash against Wycombe Wanderers this weekend, and the club's fans will be hoping to see Diop in action once again.
