West Ham fans quick to blame invader after Tottenham goal

West Ham United welcomed Tottenham Hotspur to the London Stadium for the second time in a matter of weeks on Wednesday night, with the visiting side emerging as winners again.

The Carabao Cup affair saw both sides make changes to their respective line-ups to what they brought out in the Premier League, when Spurs edged the Irons put in a 1-0 win.

Cup football resulted in a much wider scoreline than in the league, with the Lilywhites 3-1 victors thanks to goals by Son Heung-Min (x2) and Fernando Llorente.

Christian Eriksen will have been awarded the assist for the Spaniard’s left-footed volley, which ensured the currently homeless club progressed to the quarter-finals, but the build up to the goal certainly will have had its effect on Hammers defenders.

Just before the corner was taken, a second pitch invader rushed onto the field and made his way through the West Ham box as the players readied themselves for the incoming ball.

Centre-back Angelo Ogbonna intercepted the fan as he managed to avoid stewards, with these Irons certainly feeling it had an impact on the third goal.
