West Ham fans react as Alfie Mawson reportedly becomes top centre-back target

According to reliable The Sun journalist Alan Nixon via his official Twitter account, West Ham United have made Swansea City defender Alfie Mawson their top centre-back target, and Irons fans have been quick to react to the rumour.

The east London outfit, who should sign another 6ft 2in colossus as the final piece of Manuel Pellegrini’s summer rebuild, had a £25m bid rejected by Premier League rivals Newcastle United for their captain Jamaal Lascelles this week according to Sky Sports, and now it appears that the Chilean manager has turned his attentions to Mawson, who impressed for the Swans last term despite their relegation to the Championship.

He was part of the Welsh club’s defence when they beat David Moyes’ side 4-1 at the Liberty Stadium back in March, keeping Marko Arnautovic quiet throughout the 90 minutes.

These West Ham supporters took to social media to give their thoughts on the story, and while one said “get in there”, another said “Mawson has the potential to be one of the best CBs in the league”.
