The Scot succeeds Slaven Bilic after the Croatian was sacked on Monday following a disappointing start to the campaign, with the 4-1 defeat to Liverpool at the London Stadium on Saturday proving to be the final nail in his coffin as it consigned the east London outfit to a spot in the relegation zone heading into the international break.
Moyes takes charge of the Hammers following disappointing spells with Manchester United, Real Sociedad and Sunderland, who were relegated to the Championship under his leadership last term.
West Ham supporters took to social media to give their thoughts on the news, and while one said “that is me done now” having been a fan since 1974, another said “we have to get behind him now”.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
He did great things with Everton for all those years. We have a better squad than the Sunderland side and he hasn't got to live up to Fergie

We have to get behind him now. We as supporters need to play our part. No booing him, otherwise that will continue the negativity. #WHUFC

Could he be less inspiring?- West Ham has the most inept board in the league & now the most inept manager- made 4 each other! #moyesout

I have been a supporter since 1974, that is me done now. US(The supporters) don't want Moyes, YOU (The board) don't listen. #Juventus

Truly horrific. What next? Dennis Wise as Director of Football? Ron Atkinson as stadium announcer? Maybe Rio centre half.
