According to club insider ExWHUEmployee, West Ham United have held talks with Manchester United regarding the future of goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.
Johnstone has been with Man United since 2009, but is yet to make a first-team appearance for the Red Devils, with the majority of his career spent out on loan.
The stopper impressed for Aston Villa last term, and had been tipped to make a permanent move to Villa Park if Steve Bruce’s side secured Premier League promotion.
Villa fell short at the final hurdle, however, and can no longer afford to sign Johnstone.
The 25-year-old will be returning to Man United for pre-season training as things stand, but according to ExWHUEmployee, West Ham have discussed a possible deal with the Red Devils.

Adrian’s long-term future with the Hammers has been called into question following an inconsistent 2017-18 campaign, whilst Joe Hart has already left the club to return to Manchester City.
The West Ham fans have been reacting to the Johnstone links on social media, and a selection of the Twitter reaction can be seen below:
Johnstone would be a shrewd buy. Would get rid of Cresswell and replace with Shaw in a second.

Johnstone – no better than Adrian
Shaw – injury prone, average
Other 2 – ?????????

Just forget about it, can get Johnstone on loan and that’s it

Sam Johnstone would be a good signing. Young keeper that’s started to really show his potential in the last year at Villa. Also would like Luke Shaw as well all round good full back.

We won’t sign any of them.

Sam Johnstone is available and West Ham are looking at signing him. His club is Manchester United but he was on loan at #AVFC last season, he performed brilliantly. He’d be a on a Free, or we’d sign him for a small fee.
