According to club insider @ExWHUemployee on episode 74 of The West Ham Way radio show, West Ham United have handed new signing Patrice Evra a contract worth £75,000-a-week, and Irons fans have been quick to have their say on the rumour.
Hammers boss David Moyes has chosen to bring the former Manchester United man to the London Stadium on a free transfer – presumably after the six-match ban that Arthur Masuaku received for spitting at a Wigan Athletic player last month – with the 36-year-old being sacked by Marseille in November following an altercation with one of his own fans.
Given his age and his circumstances, his lucrative pay packet isn’t one that has impressed the London Stadium faithful, especially as Moyes also missed out on signing the defensive midfielder he wanted during the January transfer window.
West Ham supporters took to social media to give their thoughts on the wage, and while one said it’s “a ludicrous amount of money”, another said “classic Sullivan”.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
What?!? Wasn’t the board complaining about pay structure? How can any member of the squad making less than that be pleased? What a joke

If true, a ludicrous amount of money for an out of contract 37 year old

70k p/w for Evra!! Wtf is our club thinking 😂😂

I’d be smiling too if I was waking up to a £10.7k per day contract 😀 ! Give 100% and be seen giving 100%, and you’ll go down well. @Evra

75k a week…@Evra must be laughing all the way to the bank

So we’re paying Evra 75k a week, yet wouldn’t sign a young midfielder who’d have been paid about half that and who we actually need. Classic Sullivan.
