West Ham fans are breathing a collective sigh of relief at the latest report on Javier Hernandez, as a source close to the club said the striker is in Manuel Pellegrini’s plans for next season.

According to one popular West Ham insider, Manuel Pellegrini wants Javier Hernandez to have a “key role” at the club next season.

The Hammers have been in dire need of some more firepower up front this season, although the form of Marko Arnautovic has certainly been a silver lining in that regard.

Pellegrini often opts for two up front though, and the thought of Hernandez and Arnautovic working off each other up front is certainly an enticing one.

The Mexican striker barely got a kick under David Moyes, remarkable considering his obvious goalscoring talents.

Hernandez grabbed 17 and 11 league goals in his two seasons in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen, and still managed to net eight times this season, despite starting just 16 Premier League games.

Most of the teams in the Premier League would kill for a striker with the Mexican’s instincts and incredible knack of being in the right place at the right time, so it is perhaps no surprise that Pellegrini wants him to stay.

If the veteran manager can fulfil his promise and get the Hammers playing attacking football, then the man who has an incredible 49 international goals in 100 caps will surely have a field day next season.
