Various Turkish outlets claim West Ham have submitted a bid for World Cup star Domagoj Vida, but fans are split over moving for the Croatian defender.

West Ham have been one of the busiest teams in the transfer market this summer, spending the second most of any team in the Premier League behind Liverpool.

The Hammers have grabbed a couple of exciting wingers and a great free signing in midfield with Jack Wilshere, but plenty of attention has centred around the defence, and understandably so after some of last season’s away performances.

Ryan Fredericks, Fabian Balbuena and Issa Diop have already joined the club, but the Turkish media think Croatia centre back Vida could join them.

According to Sabah, the Hammers have actually submitted a £20m bid for the versatile centre back, who can also play on either flank as a full back.

Vida has always been a solid defender, but he stepped up a level at the World Cup, forming a surprisingly formidable partnership alongside Liverpool’s Dejan Lovren.

With the arrivals of an unproven Balbuena and an inexperienced Diop it could perhaps make sense to bring in a wise old fox to guide them along, but fans are split on the move.
