West Ham United opened their preparations for the 2018-19 campaign with a clash against Winterthur at the weekend.
The result did not go to plan, with the Hammers suffering a 3-2 defeat to the Swiss club, but there were positives as Issa Diop and Ryan Fredericks both made their debuts.
Reece Oxford was also amongst those to feature for the Hammers, with the 19-year-old playing the first 45 minutes of the pre-season fixture.
Oxford spent the majority of last season on loan with Bundesliga club Borussia Monchengladbach, but he is currently back with West Ham.
It seems a long time since Oxford burst onto the scene as a 16-year-old, and his career with West Ham has really stalled.
The teenager featured in Manuel Pellegrini’s first game in charge, but it would be fair to say that the club’s supporters were not happy with what they saw from the centre-back.
A selection of the Twitter reaction from the West Ham fans can be seen below:
Think we can all agree that Oxford is not that good though. https://t.co/2hsUtG07Qc

Clearly has the ability and potential, clearly doesn’t want to be here though

Too much hype and all that, team was performing good and bad and never got a real look in. Just needs a fresh/clean start elsewhere. New club, new team.
