CSKA Moscow midfielder Aleksandr Golovin assisted two and scored a brilliant free-kick in Russia's 5-0 win against Saudi Arabia in the opening match of the 2018 World Cup, and West Ham United fans have urged their club to sign the highly-rated 22-year-old, rated at £16.2m by Transfermarkt, who could potentially be a replacement for long-term absentee Manuel Lanzini.

Golovin, who scored seven goals and provided a further six assists in 43 appearances in all competitions for his club side last term, is widely expected to secure a move to one of the top European leagues this summer, and he certainly did his chances little harm against Saudi Arabia.

He produced two delicious crosses for his nation’s first and third goals, before he enhanced his name as a free-kick specialist – he also netted a brilliant one against Arsenal during the 2017/18 campaign – by curling home a fifth in second-half injury-time.

West Ham supporters, the majority of whom want their club to snap up a 6ft 4in outfield England international this summer, took to social media to give their thoughts on Golovin's display, and while one described him as the "perfect replacement for Lanzini", another said they "would love West Ham to sign Golovin".

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
