Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek produced an impressive cameo from the substitutes’ bench in England’s 2-1 win against Tunisia in their opening 2018 World Cup fixture on Monday, and West Ham United fans have urged their club to sign the 22-year-old, rated at £13.5m by Transfermarkt.
The Blues man, who enjoyed a successful season-long loan spell with Crystal Palace during the 2017/18 campaign having found first-team opportunities hard to come by under Antonio Conte, came on to the pitch for Dele Alli with 10 minutes remaining as Gareth Southgate’s men went in search of an equaliser.
The tall midfielder made a big impression in central areas and on the right with his energy and skill, and he won the corner that Harry Kane’s injury-time winner came from.

West Ham supporters, who think the club would regret selling a 28-year-old star, were quick to have their say on Loftus-Cheek’s display via social media, and while one said “West Ham should definitely sign Loftus-Cheek”, another said “reminds me of Rio in his pomp, relaxed, aware, calm and talented”.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
