West Ham United are in contact with Maxime Gonalons over a potential summer transfer from Roma, per L’Equipe via Sport Witness.
Gonalons has spent the season on loan at Sevilla but endured an injury-hit campaign in Spain.
He made a total of 13 appearances in all competitions, missing 33 games through injury.
In 2017/18 he made just 16 Serie A appearances, but the latest report states that he is “in contact” with West Ham, while Everton are also credited with an interest.
The 30-year-old has won seven France caps and has made a mere 23 appearances for Roma.
West Ham already have one permanently crocked midfielder on their books.
Jack Wilshere spent more time in the treatment room than on the pitch this season, making just eight first-team appearances.
The Irons should have seen that coming, though.
The Englishman’s injury woes are well-documented and he completed the 90 minutes just ten times in the Premier League for Arsenal in 2017/18.
West Ham fell into the trap once and they have no excuse to do so again.
Gonalons’ statistics should set alarm bells ringing and there is absolutely no reason that the club should be bidding for him, let alone actually discussing a transfer with him.
