According to reliable West Ham United insider @ExWHUemployee on Twitter on Sunday, the rumour that the club is targeting a summer move for Manuel Pellegrini as a possible replacement for David Moyes is "true".

What's the word, then?

Well, The Sun on Sunday reported that the east London outfit had put the 64-year-old Hebei China Fortune manager at the top of their wish-list to be their boss next season, with Moyes' future still up in the air given that his deal is due to expire at the end of the campaign.

The Sun on Sunday says the owners have doubts over whether the Scot, whom the London Stadium faithful are losing patience with after recent results, is the man to take them forward, with his cause not being helped by three successive defeats by a three-goal margin in the Premier League that have left them just one place and two points above the relegation zone.

While @ExWHUemployee has confirmed in his post that Pellegrini is a target, he believes that Moyes is still the preferred choice to be in charge next term.

Would Pellegrini be a good appointment for West Ham?

He probably would be, yes.

While Moyes has done an ok job since succeeding Slaven Bilic in November, performances in recent weeks haven't been good enough and it may be a good idea for the east London outfit to make wholesale changes this summer if they retain their Premier League status.

Pellegrini would be a calm and respected figure to lead the club – if he wants the job – and of course he has plenty of experience in the top flight having won the title with Manchester City in 2014.

What's the verdict, then?

Well, it is no surprise that West Ham are weighing up their options and considering hiring a new manager – especially as they want to appoint a director of football this summer as well – and Pellegrini would be something of a high-profile arrival that would help the club both on and off the pitch.
