West Ham keen on current star’s international’s team-mate as striker search takes twist

West Ham appear to have lowered their sights as they search for a new striker, with reports from ESPN claiming that Ecuador international Jaime Ayovi is a target.

The 28-year-old partners current Hammers star Enner Valencia up front for the South American country at international level, and featured as they reached the quarter-finals of the Copa America this summer.

The Irons have been aligned with a host of big name forwards during the current window as they shop for a marquee addition, but failed swoops for Alexandre Lacazette, Carlos Bacca and Carlos Tevez appear to have shifted their crosshairs.

Indeed, Toulouse ace Wissam Ben Yedder has emerged as a target in recent days, and reports now claim that the London club are looking at Godoy Cruz’s Ayovi.

The 38-cap international has impressed in the Argentine top tier of late with six goals in 16 games in the 2016 season, but he has only played for one side outside of the Americas, Middle Eastern outfit Al Nassr, in a journeyman career that’s included spells in Mexico, Ecuador and, most recently, Argentina.
