West Ham make improved offer for French midfield maestro
The Sunday Telegraph are reporting that West Ham United have bid £14 million for French international Dimitri Payet as the club look to kick on with their recruitment drive this summer.
An earlier offer of £12 million has already been turned down
by Payet’s club Marseille but the Irons have not been put off by this, and remain determined to sign the 28-year-old winger.
It is understood
that the Boleyn Ground outfit submitted an improved offer on Saturday, which could see them land the player.
Payet has been capped nine times by France and although the Hammers are wary about paying over-the-odds for a player who may have already reached his full potential, they remain interested in pushing through the deal.
If Payet does join, it would make him West Ham’s second signing of the summer. New Irons boss Slaven Bilic has already signed Spain Under-21 international midfielder Pedro Obiang from Sampdoria for £4.4 million and is expected to make further signings before the start of the new season.
