According to Turkish media outlet Takvim, Stoke City defender Bruno Martins Indi is a transfer target for Turkish giants Fenerbahce who want to take the Dutchman on a season-long loan deal, and West Ham United must be doing everything to hijack any potential move.

What's the word, then?

Bruno Martins Indi applauds the Stoke fans

Well, Takvim report that the Netherlands international doesn't want to stay at the Britannia Stadium following the club's relegation to the Championship, even though he only joined them on a permanent basis last summer.

Takvim say that Fenerbahce want the 26-year-old, who still has four years remaining on his contract, to join them on loan with a view to a permanent deal, and they are ready to send the proposal to the English club – their second after an initial approach was rejected.

Martins Indi made 17 Premier League appearances for the Potters last term as they went down, with injury problems hampering his campaign as he missed a spell mid-season with a groin problem, before he was absent for their final two games as well having picked up another issue.

Why should West Ham hijack any move?

Well, while Manuel Pellegrini has already added Fabian Balbuena, who impressed Irons fans on Twitter with his latest display with one saying he is "everything Oxford was supposed to be", and Issa Diop to his squad to strengthen at the heart of the defence, the Chilean may well want another option.

With Jose Fonte and James Collins leaving in recent months and doubts over the long-term fitness of Winston Reid, a new centre-back looks to be required and Martins Indi would be a solid choice – especially on loan which would allow the manager to spend big on a new defensive midfielder.

The 26-year-old has shown during his time with Stoke that he is more than capable at Premier League level, and the fact that he is strong and has good concentration levels are certainly a huge positive.

If he can perform at anywhere near the level he did for his country at the 2014 World Cup, he would be an inspired addition.
