According to French media outlet France Football, Lyon are interested in signing West Bromwich Albion midfielder Nacer Chadli, rated at £9m by Transfermarkt, following some impressive displays for Belgium at the 2018 World Cup, and West Ham United should be watching developments closely.

What's the word, then?

Nacer Chadli celebrates

Well, France Football report that the Ligue 1 outfit are interested in the versatile Belgian, who played in various roles for his country in Russia as they were beaten by France at the semi-final stage.

The former Tottenham man had been the hero for the Red Devils two rounds earlier when his last-gasp winner saw his nation beat Japan 3-2, and he often made an impact from the substitutes’ bench before starting in a right-back/right wing-back role against Les Bleus on Tuesday.

Chadli may well be on his way out of West Brom this summer following their relegation to the Championship last term, and he is likely to have his fair share of potential suitors following his most recent displays.

Why should West Ham be monitoring the situation?

Well, Irons boss Manuel Pellegrini has already significantly strengthened his team this summer, but he won't have finished his business just yet.

The opportunity to sign Chadli is one that perhaps the Chilean, who has been urged to complete the marquee signing of a Real Madrid man by Hammers fans, can't afford to turn down given the number of positions he can excel in and cover – especially if he is available for a reasonable fee.

While the 2017/18 campaign was a difficult one for the 28-year-old and his club because of initially falling out of favour with Tony Pulis and then picking up an injury which restricted him to just five Premier League appearances all season, five goals and five assists in 31 top flight games the previous year proves the quality that he has in his locker.
