The forward spent the season on loan at West Brom, but new Blues manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Lukaku will feature in a Chelsea shirt in the 2013/14 season.
Lukaku scored 17 Premier League goals last season with the Baggies in a highly impressive loan spell, where he showed fans why he was dubbed ‘the next Didier Drogba’. It was rumoured that Sam Allardyce’s West Ham were also interested in signing the Belgian to accompany Andy Carroll up front, but the Hammers will now have to look elsewhere as the Blues .
But despite rumours linking Chelsea with star forwards Edinson Cavani and Stevan Jovetic, Mourinho has reassured Lukaku, and Kevin Du Bruyne, who spent the season on loan at Werder Bremen, that they will have a role to play next season.
“First of all I want to meet them but I think both of them are ready to be part of the squad,” the new Chelsea manager said.
Du Bruyne had been tipped to be part of the deal that would see Andre Schurrle move to Stamford Bridge. But yesterday afternoon, the club announced that the Blues had reached an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen for the young German, that would not involve Du Bruyne moving to the Bundesliga side.
Meanwhile, Fernando Torres’ future at the club is in fresh doubt amid new rumours linking him with a move to Barcelona.
Should Lukaku be given a chance at Chelsea? Or should he and Du Bruyne be given one more season on loan?
