The Belgian battering ram moved to Merseyside only last summer in a £32.5million deal from Aston Villa, where he’d scored 42 times across three Premier League campaigns.
But the 25-year-old looks set to leave Anfield this summer, having struggled to impress German gaffer Jurgen Klopp – who replaced Brendan Rodgers, the manager who signed Benteke, in October.
The Guardian reported earlier this week that Crystal Palace had tabled a second bid for the 6 foot 3 striker, after missing out on fellow front man target Michy Batshuayi to Chelsea.
But The Sun now claim West Ham are looking to hijack Palace’s pursuit of Benteke, having also missed out on a number of priority strike targets this summer.
And it’s further alleged that talks between the Hammers and Benteke’s representatives are scheduled for some point this week.
The Sun quote an Irons insider as saying; “It’s hard to do business with Liverpool because they always want big numbers and the player’s personal terms are high.
“He is not at the top of our list but we continue to monitor the situation. Everybody knows who is interested including the player and the agents, but although we are interested there are several other irons in the fire.”
