According to the Daily Mail, Everton are weighing up launching a move to sign out-of-favour West Ham United defender Reece Oxford in the upcoming January transfer window.

What’s the word?

The 20-year-old centre-back is yet to appear for the Hammers this season, and with summer signings Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena currently impressing at the London Stadium, Oxford’s opportunities for first team action under Manuel Pellegrini look limited.

Marco Silva may well fancy his chances of being able to coax the best out of the promising England under-20 international though. A permanent switch to Goodison Park, and the fresh start for his career that that would offer, could well be what Oxford needs at this time.

However, West Ham shouldn’t allow the youngster to leave without ensuring that a deal is first struck with the Toffees that works for them too.

A new key figure

The Irons ought to demand that Ademola Lookman is included in any deal taking Oxford to the Merseyside club.

With Andriy Yarmolenko currently ruled out with a long-term injury, the east Londoners could certainly do with some additional firepower in the wide areas. The 21-year-old would likely be able to garner a bit more first team football with Hammers than he currently is managing under Silva too.

Lookman could quickly become a key figure at West Ham, especially with Michail Antonio’s form being pretty inconsistent. For the price of a defender they have no need for, Lookman would be a smart addition for Pellegrini’s squad.
