According to the Birmingham Mail, Manchester United are prepared to sell Marcos Rojo in the January transfer window, with Wolves amongst the potential suitors for the defender.

What’s the word?

Rojo has hardly featured for the Red Devils in recent months due to injury, but it would seem that Jose Mourinho is not planning to offer the 28-year-old a second chance to impress at Old Trafford.

With United having endured a woeful start to the season, the club could be preparing to instigate an overhaul of the squad, beginning with ousting Rojo in January.

Meanwhile, newly-promoted Wolves have made a fine start to life in the Premier League and currently sit in 11th place with 16 points on the board.

Before Nuno Espirito Santo can boost his thriving squad even further by bringing Rojo to Molineux though, West Ham would be wise to enter the race for his signature.

A stronger platform

The Hammers added well to their defensive contingent in the summer, with new arrivals Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena both impressing at the London Stadium. However, Manuel Pellegrini’s squad lacks quality depth to cover the heart of his backline, especially with Winston Reid ruled out with a long-term injury.

Adding the 59-cap Argentina international to his squad in January would create competition for places - pushing Diop and Balbuena to raise their games even more - and also give the Irons a stronger platform to kick on from in the second half of the campaign.

What do you think, West Ham fans - would Rojo be a smart January addition?
