West Ham should sign Juan Mata once Man United get £60m Willian deal done

According to reports in the Daily Mail, Manchester United are lining up a £60m bid for Chelsea winger Willian, and their Premier League rivals West Ham United should be watching developments closely.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the Daily Mail reports says that Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho wants a reunion with the 29-year-old Brazil international who he brought to England when he was Blues boss five years ago, and he is ready to launch a £60m offer.

The attacker started for his country in their 1-1 draw with Switzerland in their opening 2018 World Cup fixture on Sunday, but he was largely in and out of the Chelsea team last term having struggled to find form, starting just 20 top flight games for the west London outfit.

The Daily Mail says that Mourinho has a long-standing interest in the forward and tried to bring him to Old Trafford during the January transfer window, but failed with the Blues reluctant to sell.

However, the Portuguese manager may feel that £60m could now be enough to convince his former team to let the Brazilian join a direct rival.

Why should West Ham be monitoring the situation?

Well, new Irons boss Manuel Pellegrini is desperate to strengthen his newly-inherited squad this summer, and Man United midfielder Juan Mata, rated at £27m by Transfermarkt, would certainly be a smart addition given he would fall further down the pecking order if Willian signed.

Having lost Manuel Lanzini to injury until 2019, the former Manchester City chief, whom Hammers fans want to sign a 27-year-old central midfielder after an impressive World Cup performance, may well want to bring in a new attacking midfielder to fill the void left by the Argentina international, and the inventive Spaniard could be a great addition.

The 30-year-old has scored 47 goals and provided a further 56 assists in 221 Premier League appearances for United and Chelsea, and he would certainly bring the creativity that will be lacking without Lanzini, while he can also play out wide if needed, too.
