West Ham star sidelined

West Ham midfielder Joe Cole

Joe Cole will be sidelined for a month after suffering a hamstring injury in the 1-0 win over Stoke.

Cole joined the Hammers on a free transfer in January and has scored 2 goals in 7 games since his return to the club where he started his career.

The midfielder injured his hamstring early on in the game at the Britannia and he had to be substituted after ten minutes. The Hammers went on to win the game 1-0 taking them up to 12th place in the Premier League.

Cole is set to miss next weekend’s London derby clash between West Ham and his former club Chelsea and possibly another game after that, according to The Sun

Meanwhile it was revealed this week that West Ham owners David Gold and David Sullivan lent the club £35million last season to guarantee that they would be promoted to the English top flight. The club released their latest accounts and defended the loan as they thought it was the best action for the club.

“We decided to invest our money into achieving promotion,” Sullivan explained.

“Our cash allowed the manager to go into the transfer market and buy the  players we needed.

“During that period we bought or loaned 18 players, most notably Kevin  Nolan,  Matty Taylor and Ricardo Vaz Te.”
