West Ham striker ranked in the top ten best strikers in Europe

While it’s no surprise to learn that Chelsea’s Diego Costa has been ranked as Europe’s ‘signing of the season’ in the shooting department, it’s fairly eye-opening to see who else from the Premier League makes the top rankings.

West Ham’s Diafra Sakho has taken the Premier League by storm since signing from FC Metz for ¬£4million in the summer, netting nine league goals in 21 outings so far.

And the Football Observatory rank him the seventh best signing of the season across Europe’s top five leagues so far this term, with Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez languishing in 12th.

That’s some achievement for a striker who was playing French second division football just last season and has managed to take the step up to the world class level of the Premier League with relative ease.

It’s not clear how the table is decided, but I’ll take a wild guess and say it’s an amalgamation of shots-to-goals ratio, shot accuracy, goals per 90 mins, etc.

The Hammers may be struggling to find some form at present, but at least they can practically boast the seventh¬†best signing of the season in Europe…
