West Ham to return for £6.5m Sporting ace

West Ham United are pondering a move for Algerian striker Islam Slimani, according to the Brentwood Gazette.

Slimani, who scored in Algeria’s 4-2 win over Korea Republic on Sunday, has been a key cog in Les Fennecs throughout the World Cup in Brazil so far.

The 26-year-old currently plays for Sporting Lisbon in Portugal, and it is believed he could be tempted to East London for a fee of around £6.5million.

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce inquired about bringing on the striker on loan in January, but was unable to reach a deal. Now, however, the Hammers are hoping to make the move permanent.

Slimani joined Sporting Lisbon last summer after spending four years with CR Belouizdad of the Algerian League. In his first season with Lisbon, Slimani netted eight goals in 26 games.

West Ham are looking to upgrade their attack after scoring just 40 goals in 38 league matches last season en route to a 13th place finish in the Premier League.

They have also recently been linked with a move with Argentinian midfielder Ever Banega, who reportedly wants a move to the Premier League.
