West Ham United are focusing their attention on the possibility of signing a defender before the transfer deadline, sources have told Football FanCast.
The Hammers have fewer than two days remaining of the transfer window to bring in any new signings.
Thus far this month, the Irons have signed goalkeeper Darren Randolph and midfielder Tomas Soucek.
However, there is a desire to bring in a player who can specialise as a full-back.
There was interest in signing Kyle Walker-Peters from Spurs, per sources, but the interest came too late, with Southampton instead securing a deal to secure the right-back on loan.
Sources have confirmed that the Hammers would like to bring in a defender, given the fact that Pablo Zabaleta is 35 and Ryan Fredericks is currently injured.
West Ham have been linked with a possible move for Genk defender Joakim Maehle, and there is a hope that they will be able to secure a full-back before the deadline.
There is also a willingness to bring a striker into the club to bolster David Moyes’ squad but there has been no movement on a possible move for Krzysztof Piatek.
The Poland striker, per sources, has not been the subject of a bid from the Hammers.
Sources have said that there will be a willingness to do business until the end of the deadline but that no deal has reached an advanced stage as of yet.
