Javier Hernandez has taken a massive pay cut to join Sevilla from West Ham United, according to The Daily Mail.

What’s the word?

The report states that the former Manchester United and Real Madrid striker was earning £145,000-per-week at the London Stadium.

However, he will earn £53,000-per-week at the Spanish club, a cut of £93,000.

That equates to £4.8m-per-year and even Monchi, the club’s Sporting Director, has expressed his astonishment at Hernandez’s willingness to lower his demands.

He said: “I wanted to sign him a long time ago and I must say that in my 20 years as a sports director I had never seen a football player lower his salary so much to sign for Sevilla.”

Admirable move

This is absolutely fair enough from Hernandez.

Football FanCast reported earlier this summer that Chicharito was deemed expendable by the Irons, though he appeared set to stay after Marko Arnautovic was sold to China.

The striker appears to have made the move happen himself, though, by lowering his wage demands to such a level that Sevilla could finance a deal.

There are few top players who would take such a step, particularly at a late stage in their career.

But even West Ham supporters should applaud his ability to compromise.
