West Ham United's first team had a tough start to the season as they lost four Premier League matches on the trot.

Things started to pick up when they earned a 3-1 victory over Everton at Goodison Park after the international break.

Manuel Pellegrini's side finally looked like they were gelling, particularly defensively and they followed up that win by restricting Chelsea to a goalless draw at the weekend.

The senior team may be improving, but the club's Under-21s suffered a blow on Tuesday night.

The team were beaten 2-0 by Exeter City in the Checkatrade Trophy, and both goals were scored by Jonathan Forte.

The half-an-hour disruption due to a floodlight issue at St James Park did not help matters as the Hammers were unable to find their rhythm.

On Twitter, a handful of West Ham fans posted their disappointment in the result, and some expressed anger at the display, despite the fact that some key players were missing.
