There is no doubt that Dimitri Payet was a fantastic player for West Ham United, and arguably one of the best that has graced the East London club’s pitch in years.
However, in January 2017, the fans’ opinion of the creative player completely switched on account of his off-field behaviour.
The Frenchman tried to push for a move away from the club, and when they initially resisted, he refused to play.
Then-manager Slaven Bilic shunned Payet from the first team, and eventually the midfielder was granted a return to Marseille.

On Thursday, West Ham insider known as ExWHUemployee tweeted that there was a slim chance of an “exciting” player returning to the East London outfit.
That nugget of news led to a debate about Payet potentially making a shock move back to the Hammers.
The response from supporters on Twitter has been mixed, with some willing to forgive and forget and others believing that the club would be making a huge mistake allowing him to be part of Manuel Pellegrini’s side.
Nope. He doesn’t want to be at west ham nothing works the second time.

None of us truly know why Payet left….Board, Manager, Family, Team Mates, Home Broadband Deal or what the bleeding hell whatever. Truth..he was our guy…If he comes back (he won’t) and he scores a 30yrd free kick? All forgiven.

Yes, without a shadow of a doubt. Come on make it happen
— Paul Butler (@pbutler66) July 5, 2018
Payet was a wonderful player but he showed complete disrespect for the club and fans in leaving the way he did. We don’t need people like that in the team.
— Stephen Gillam (@stevegillo) July 6, 2018
Yes all day long.. I can have morals or I can have the best player I’ve seen wear the shirt in years again
— Ben Jury (@benjury75) July 5, 2018
Payet coming back is a bit like getting back with an ex girlfriend that cheated on you. There’s still some love there, but then you would worry that she’d do the same again to you and move to France ?
— Irons Man ??????? (@IronsMan_) July 6, 2018
Want to say no but….
— Joe F (@MimicWhistle) July 6, 2018
If the players have forgiven him and want him then back I’m all for it. Forgive but don’t forget.
— Scott Smallman (@SGSmallman) July 6, 2018
He treated the club & fans so badly, when he left the club we all hated him. So, on that basis, it’s a ‘yes’ from me. ?
