West Ham United should try their luck by moving for Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen in the January transfer window.

What's the word?

The Denmark international has made it clear that he is not entirely happy with life at Stamford Bridge right now.

The 22-year-old has only featured in three matches in all competitions, and all of those were cup fixtures.

Christensen's father Sten, who also acts as his son's agent, has spoken to Danish television insisting that the Chelsea defender will seek to leave if he is not playing by Christmas.

Within the quotes, which have been reported by The Telegraph, a loan move was seemingly ruled out.

"For me it’s not a loan again. Either it’s Chelsea or else he needs to leave. I don’t think a loan is the optimal situation for Andreas. It’s sort of either or."

Should West Ham get involved?

A loan option would have been much more feasible, but it seems that there is no chance of that happening judging from the comments made by Christensen's father.

Even so, the Hammers should approach the camp regarding a possible deal.

It is clear that the defender is desperate for regular minutes having impressed last season.

Manuel Pellegrini brought in two new defenders in the summer and while Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena have put in some positive displays, Christensen would be a first-choice option.

The Dane has the ability to play out from the back and he is quicker on his feet than West Ham's current options.

It may be a long shot but one that is worth trying for the East London outfit.
