According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal and West Ham United are among the clubs interested in teenage Irish winger Elvis Azah.

What's the word?

The opportunity to buy new players has ended for another summer in the Premier League, but youth players can still be recruited.

The Daily Mail reports that 17-year-old Azah has attracted the interest of Arsenal and West Ham United, as well as Tottenham Hotspur.

The winger scored twice against the Hammers while at Cardiff City for pre-season, but it is unclear where his future lies.

Azah, who can play on either side of the pitch or up front, was born in Ghana but moved to Ireland with his mother when he was 11 years old and has since gained Irish citizenship.

What is the youngster's best option?

The path that a young player takes at this stage of his career can either result in a successful career or one that never gets off the ground.

Given his age, it would be best for Azah to choose a club that can best serve his needs with regards to development.

Both Arsenal and Tottenham have strong academies, but he may have a harder route to the first team than if he chose West Ham.

Manuel Pellegrini brought in nine players during the summer transfer window, which suggests that he will have to bide his time before attracting the attention of the manager.

However, he is more likely to receive first-team minutes at the London Stadium if he impresses in the development sides.

If Azah is destined for greatness, then the so-called 'bigger' clubs will come knocking eventually.

It is best for him not to take that step too soon.
